ANZAC Day

This week YBPS is having our Anzac Day service. This week Year One students will be creating a class reath to lay at the service. Each class has been asked to complete this task. Students will be involved in a class discussion to develop their understanding of this important day.

Week 10: What We Are Learning This Week

Literacy: Due to last week being a short week students are continuing to use the digraphs ai and ee to read/write words and construct sentences this week. During guided reading sessions this week I will be exposing students to the reading strategy 'Sharp Eyes' to encourage them to use the illustrations in books to assist them when reading. In writing lessons this week students will continue to innovate and create their own story based on our class narrative "Cat, Prickle and Pelican." Handwriting sessions this week will focus on  the robot letters r, n, m and  h as this was not completed last week due to time constraints.

Numeracy: The math focus for this week is statistics and probability. Students will be using math language that includes vocabulary such as impossible, unlikely, likely and certain. We will also revise number stories using addition (for example Miss Blakie had 9 teddies but she found 5 more, how many teddies are there all together?)

Science: Last week Science lessons included developing understanding of dinosaurs physical defences. Students brain stormed their ideas and discussed them as a class. Students made plans as to how they will construct their own dinosaur shields with a partner. This week students will commence their construction which will incorporate scientific inquiry but also technology and enterprise skills.

History: This term we have been learning about the past, present and future. This week students will be using time language such as yesterday, tomorrow, in the future and a long time ago and performing short role plays to represent their understanding of these concepts. This will also include group works and cooperation skills.
